The Cult of Stardom
Opera Speaks panel discussion.
What makes someone a star, in the arts, sports, or politics? Is it the force of their personality, the psychology of the public imagination, or the power of their public relations machine? A panel of experts explores this fascinating phenomenon, focused through the lens of Evita, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical story of Eva Perón, First Lady of Argentina in the turbulent 1940s.
With Charlie Demers (writer/comedian and frequent star of CBC Radio’s The Debaters), Janet Smith (Georgia Straight arts editor), and Caroline Bowman (who is playing Evita in the Vancouver Opera’s forthcoming production).
