A Tribute to Gabriel Garcia Marquez: The Blue Lobster
September 10, 2015, 7pm
Vancouver Public Library, Central Branch
Gabriel García Márquez, Colombian master of literature and magic realism, once stated “I loved cinema so much that I threw myself into it for the same reasons I wrote novels and stories, and that I’ve worked in journalism: it was another way of telling a story.” He wrote over 50 scripts for Mexican movies during the 60s and 70s.
The Vancouver Public Library presents a special screening of La langosta azul, or The Blue Lobster, the only film Gabriel Garcia Marquez was directly involved in producing, with live musical accompaniment. Jon Beasley-Murray (Associate Professor in the Department of French, Hispanic, and Italian studies at UBC) discusses Gabriel García Márquez’s larger body of work.
In partnership with the Festival Itinerante de Artes Audiovisuales Colombianas and the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival.
